Landscape Mapper has been used by Forestry Tasmania since 2005 for two main tasks.
- Updating Forestry Tasmania’s Forest Operation Database
- Ongoing management and creation of 1:25000 scale Photographic Interpretation Type maps.
This product has allowed Forestry Tasmania to easily and accurately capture harvest, planting and fire information, as well as interpreted vegetation type boundaries from aerial photographs. Roads, tracks or fire lines can also be easily updated when required from more modern photography.
Landscape Mapper rectifies on the fly, meaning that the GIS operator can see the improvement in the end result as they add more control points. Alternative orthorectification software requires you to add your control, interpret the result, and then redo the control if not accurate enough.
